Bad Instal Can Make a Big Difference/Directv Does not Really Care - DirecTv Company itself


Be careful who installs your Directv . I had a very faulty installation about 10 years ago. The installer put the dish too close to an emergency exit window, blocking the security grate from opening. While he was in the middle of the instal it was pointed out to him. Instead of moving the dish over a few inches, he oriented the dish off access and therefore gave me less than optimal reception because he was too lazy to move the dish. Fast forward 10 years and I have to have a tech come out because one of my boxes just went totally out. Turned out that a neighbor's workman accidentally broke one of the cables coming from my dish. But while the tech was here he noticed my reception was bad, not aligned right. He made the corrections and my reception noticeably improved. I could not believe that I had lived with bad reception all these years because of a lazy installer and that I did not know any better. Unfortunately, after the guy left, I realized that of course the security grate was again blocked due to the proper alignment. At first they wanted to charge me $50 to have a tech come back out and move the dish so I could get out of my house in an emergency. Refusing to pay $50 for them to correct their error, they finally agreed to do it since it was a safety issue (sic). They were totally unapologetic that I have had to endure lousy reception because the original installation was faulty. The original install was just a contractor and they did not feel responsible (that is corporate irresponsibility- take responsibility for your subcontractors). I was furious seeing what I have been missing, due to the shoddy installation about 10 years ago. They were like, you were not complaining every week, so we can not be responsible. Until the dish orientation was corrected, did I know I was accepting something less than what it could be. Obviously it was not horrible, but once it was corrected, it was noticeably better. I was furious at their lack of concern whether or not their customer was getting a good product. I really don't think they care, pay them their money (which keeps going up and up for no good reason but obviously greed) and shut up. BE CAREFUL WHO INSTALLS YOUR DIRECTV. MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR HOUSE AND MAKE THE PROPER ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR DISH, NOT PROPERLY DONE CAN GIVE YOU A LESS THAN SATISFACTORY PRODUCT.
