I have been a customer since 1999 of directv . When we started out, the monthly fees were $35 and have since gone to $100 (I haven't changed the programming at all). Three months ago I called them looking to see if there was a cheaper service and I was told no but they could give me $5 off for the monthly auto pay and $5 off a month for being a long time customer (these were only going to last 6 months). When I received my statement the following month, the $10 credit wasn't taken off so I called them again to get the credit taken off, they said they would do it next month. The following month the same thing happened so I called once again about it. They credited the $20 but the following month, I had to make up the difference since I had a previous balance (what?). After giving them 4 months to correct the problem, I have finally had enough. I called them up today to disconnect the service. I was told there was a cheaper service ($20 cheaper) I could sign up for. I asked why it wasn't offered to me when I called 4 months ago and I didn't receive an answer. I said I wasn't interested in the plan. The lady continued to tell me that any credits I was given would be taken back. I told her I was starting to get a bad taste in my mouth and I'd like her to explain what she meant. She just repeated herself. Then she proceeded to tell me that if I wanted to sign back up that the reconnect would be free of charge. I said I wasn't interested. I was also told that the receivers and remotes had to be returned in a certain amount of time or they would be charging us for them. I think after paying the $199 for the receiver from the beginning and paying the monthly $10 charge on each receiver for 15 years has more than covered the cost of it but that's beside the point. Once you want to disconnect, they take away all the credits and charge you back for them. I cant wait for the final bill and see how long it will take to get that mess resolved.
