Ten days ago today, August 20, 2013, I called Directv to cancel my service because I was unable to censor commercials. The customer service representative (CSR) advised me that there was an $80.00 charge to cancel the service. I told the CSR I would have an invoice due August 24 or 25, 2013 (I hadn't received it yet) and asked whether I should just include the additional $80. The CSR advised me NOT to pay the August invoice because Directv bills in advance of service. I was told NOT to pay the August invoice three times during our conversation. Directv would issue a final invoice in the amount of $80 in 7-10 business days. True to his word, I received an invoice today in excess of $100 for services and the cancellation fee. When I called Directv today, I spoke with three representatives. The first rep told me that "unfortunately" I had been misinformed on August 20. The second said that the situation was unfortunate, but there was nothing she could do. The third rep told me that she understood my concern, but if she were to reduce the amount due, the "back end accounting" office would just re-enter the difference and send me another bill. Really??? Directv refuses to adjust my account down to the $80 I was told would be due. Furthermore, I asked the three reps today to pull the phone records, wherein there would be proof of what I was told. They all told me they were unable to do that. I was "encouraged" to write Directv about my grievance.
